Job description

Our Hetzner Cloud team consists of around 80 employees and works both remotely across Germany and from our office in Munich (Unterföhring).

You’ll develop and validate FPGA-based functions for systems that work closely with Linux. You’ll work at the interface between hardware and software, turn requirements into robust designs and take responsibility for testing, reviews and the ongoing development of the FPGA components.

The annual salary for this position is between €68,000 and €101,000 gross. The exact salary level will be determined based on professional experience and the scope of responsibilities.

Our stack in keywords: FPGA, AMD/Xilinx SoC (Zynq), Vivado, Verilog/SystemVerilog, PCIe, DMA, AXI, Ethernet, Verilator, Tcl, Reproducible Builds, Embedded Linux.

What you’ll do

  • You take ownership of the FPGA components and help shape their architecture and further development

  • You design, implement and verify FPGA designs for systems that work closely with Linux

  • You develop and validate interfaces between the FPGA and software, for example using PCIe, DMA and AXI

  • You create testbenches, simulate your designs (currently with Verilator) and contribute to reproducible builds

  • You bring FPGA designs up on hardware and handle debugging, timing closure and performance optimisation

  • You carry out technical reviews and work closely with colleagues from hardware and software

Job requirements

  • You have several years of experience in FPGA design and work with VHDL, Verilog or SystemVerilog

  • You have in-depth knowledge of PCIe and experience with Ethernet and network protocols

  • You’re familiar with FPGA development environments such as Vivado or Quartus and ideally with SoC platforms such as AMD/Xilinx Zynq

  • You have experience testing and simulating FPGA designs; knowledge of Verilator, Tcl or reproducible builds is a plus

  • You understand embedded Linux as well as the driver and firmware side, and enjoy working at the interface between hardware and software

  • You work independently with a solution-oriented approach, communicate openly and enjoy building new things

  • You speak and write German and English fluently
